Weekly Meetings

The professor was met with weekly to present updates and progress on the project as well as receive feedback for things discussed.

Week 11 - 07/27/2021

An updated CAD rendering of the cooler was shown, with the cutting board, active refrigeration units, and automated lid parts removed. The design engineering requirements were also updated to reflect the changes and be more specific. The professor requested updates DER, DES, and timelines.

Week 10 - 07/20/2021

After presenting to the review panel, this meeting was spend proposing to the professor design changes to reduce our amount of scope creep. The active refrigeration units, cutting board, and automated lid were cut from the features.

Week 9 - 07/09/2021

The final presentation was given to the review panel for senior design proposal.

Week 8 - 07/01/2021

Professor Notash reviewed the proposal paper for both groups and made suggestions.

Week 7 - 06/22/2021

A revised CAD render was shown to Professor Notash, showing the retractable cutting board and larger touch screen feature. It was discussed that the larger touch screen cost more, and in order to keep within budget, the touch screen will be 7" again. The block diagram was updated to have a retractable cutting board and automated lid. The updated WB was also shown, this time with presentation slides. It was agreed by everyone that for the rest of the semester no weekly meeting would be required, and if helped was needed, it would be communicated through email.

Week 6 - 06/17/2021

A meeting was held with Professor Notash to discuss features that our group thought were not feasible given our budget and circumstances. For the monitor, it was instead proposed to get a larger touch screen. The touch screen would be 10" instead of 7 ". Also, making the bluetooth speakers detached added another level of complexity. The feature to contact emergency services seemed impractical as a SIM card or internet connection would be needed to contact emergency services. It was also suggested to have a retractable cutting board feature.

Week 6 - 06/15/2021

This week Professor Notash was shown progress on the DER, DES, and PB. The WB was updated with all the current information. The professor reviewed the website and suggested changes. A revised CAD render of the smart cooler was also shown.

Week 5 - 06/08/2021

Survey results were presented to Professor Notash. The survey showed that temperature regulation, bluetooth speakers, and wireless charging were the most important features. The refrigeration system was also looked at. The professor requested all the proposed cooler features in a single email and a detailed revised CAD render of the smart cooler. The smart cooler was approved for the senior design project.

Week 4 - 06/01/2021

Professor Notash showed similar products to the smart cooler that our group proposed. The Infinite cooler had features such as a blender, cutting board, bluetooth speakers, built-in camera, and other features. Ice retention is an important feature discussed. Other possible ideas were a robot following cooler. The CAD rendering for the smart cooler were shown. A more in-depth look of the mechanism for the lift arm was also rendered for the shelf organizer.

Week 3 - 05/25/2021

The CAD renderings for the tunnel digger and bookshelf organizer were shown. The CAD rendering for the smart cooler were still in progress. Professor Notash emphasized the importance of working together. The tunnel digger was scrapped and the focus for more clarity were the smart cooler and bookshelf organizer. The CAD rendering for the smart cooler needed to be finalized and for the bookshelf organizer the lifting mechanism, as well as shelf and bin dimensions needed to be understood. The professor wanted these to be emailed by Friday.

Week 2 - 05/18/2021

Project ideas were proposed to Professor Notash. The projects for our group were a smart cooler, a security dog robot, a tunnel digger robot, and a bookshelf organizer. Block diagrams for each project idea were presented and explained. Professor Notash emphasized that the complexity of the projects needed to be 8 months and that for the smart cooler, tunnel digger, and bookshelf organizer, a CAD rendering needed to be produced to give an idea of possible dimensions and parts required for each project.

Week 1 - 05/12/2021

We were introduced to the class as Professor Notash discussed the expectations for the proposal of our senior design project. The syllabus was reviewed and members were verified for each group. Professor Notash requested 4-6 project ideas and block diagrams for each one.
