Project Ideas
Initial project ideas for senior design are shown below. General ideas as well as feature and possible implementation methods were researched, and a block diagram was created for the possible design of the project.
Smart Cooler
The cooler is the center of a lot of get togethers, and we believe there is a lot of room for improvement and innovation with this product.
We would be adding refrigeration, a lock, a speaker, touchscreen, and bluetooth connectivity. This would also require some supporting systems, including a power supply and transformers/ converters.
Tunnel Digger
The idea behind the Tunnel digger is to create a robot that can be used to lay wires or cables under existing structures with a shallow foundational footprint. The primary example we were thinking was a driveway, and this robot would do this by digging its way through the softer dirt and earth underneath the structure.
Security Dog
The Robot Guard Dog idea is to create a robot that would investigate disturbances. This would be a system where sensors are placed to monitor possible points of entry, and when these sensors are tripped the robot will go to that location. When the robot is on site it will ‘bark’ through the onboard speaker to alert the owner and use a servo to drive an arm and ‘scratch’ the area in question. When not in use the ‘dog’ would be resting at his ‘house’ a charging station that it will return to maintain it’s charge.
Bookshelf Organizer
The bookshelf organizer will be a modular system where blocks can be stacked together to make a shelf. Inside the blocks will fit a bin where items can be placed. The system will either be told where to place an item by retrieving the desired bin so an item can be placed and setting it back in the shelf. Items can then be retrieved by asking for said item so the system will retrieve the bin that it is in.
